The Clinical Support Unit are a specialist team of clinicians who operate within Queensland Corrective Services. Our team administer assessments and provide evidence-informed clinical advice and support to improve the quality of case
management for all individuals who have sexually offended.
The Specialised Assessment Officer is responsible for the administration of specialised assessment tools for sexual and violent offenders case managed by Sentence and Case Management Services (SCMS) and Community Corrections.

A suitability list will be created from this process to fill temporary contracts of up to 12 months, with the possibility of extension.
The Essential Requirements for this role are:
- Demonstrated experience in the criminal justice environment, or similar experience that demonstrates ability to rapidly acquire this knowledge, including the interpretation and application of legislation, policy and practice directives in an operational environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge, or ability to rapidly acquire knowledge, of assessment and risk management approaches for working with a diverse and complex client base within a human services field.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of contemporary issues relevant to the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the criminal justice system.
- High level interpersonal skills, including strong written and oral communication and the ability to engage with a diverse client group and effectively communicate with stakeholders in a manner appropriate to the audience.
- Demonstrated experience in applying professional discretion, reasoning, judgement, and decision-making skills prior to seeking management validation.
- Demonstrated ability to be adaptable, resilient, and flexible in work practices in response to shifting priorities and the practicalities of working within a fast paced and high-pressure operational environment.
- Demonstrated ability to build and manage strong relationships with peers, team members, internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications, Professional Registration, Conditions and Other Requirements
- Possession of a relevant human services tertiary degree such as psychology, criminology, justice, social work, health, behavioural or social sciences is required.
- Individuals employed on a permanent or temporary basis are required to successfully complete training, and become accredited, in the completion of Static-99R, Stable 2007 and Violence Risk Scale (VRS) within 6 months of commencement.
- The incumbent will be required to undertake ongoing training, accreditation, and professional development relevant to the role.
- The incumbent may be required to travel on official business and the possession of a C class licence is required.
