The Psychological Services Unit, part of the Specialist Operations Branch, provides exceptional support to psychological services staff in correctional centres through expert clinical advice, professional development, and governance oversight.
LOCATION: Townsville Correctional Complex consists of two separate high custody facilities- one for males and one for females. The complex also supports management of both male and female prisoners at separate low custody facilities. As a psychologist at TCC you will operate within a supportive multidisciplinary team based at one of the main high custody centres with opportunities to work across location and in collaboration with colleagues in custodial operations to support positive rehabilitative outcomes. At both female and male facilities, you will have the opportunity to conduct QCS specific assessments and brief intervention including focusing on connecting clients with external stakeholders. The centre provides financial support towards supervision for those registered as provisional psychologists.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE:
• Specialised Expertise: Proven skills in evidence-based assessment and intervention for adults facing challenges such as suicidality, mental health issues,
cognitive impairments, or developmental disorders.
• Strong Communication: Exceptional written communication abilities to produce high-quality professional reports and case notes, along with outstanding verbal skills to engage effectively with a diverse client group.
• Legislative Knowledge: In-depth understanding of, and ability to interpret and apply, relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
• Commitment to Excellence: A passion for continuous learning and professional development, with a dedication to applying best practices in forensic and clinical psychology.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Provisional or General Registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
