This position leads intelligence and investigations operations in Queensland Corrective Services (QCS). The position is responsible for the delivery of intelligence services by the QCS central intelligence group and the coordination of intelligence staff within QCS’ secure correctional facilities and in Community Corrections. It is also responsible for implementing intelligence training to enhance intelligence capability across the Agency and ensuring intelligence operates in support of QCS, reducing risk within the correctional system and preventing crime in the wider community.
The position is also responsible for oversight and direction to the operations of QCS Investigations Unit ensuring the unit is operating in accordance with QCS priorities and in compliance with the Memorandum of Understanding with the Queensland Police Service (QPS).

In this role you will:
- Lead the implementation of recommendations from the Capability Uplift Program
- Coordinate intelligence operational responses to major incidents, tactical operations and investigations
- Provide support to operational management through identifying indicators of crime, providing proactive (predictive) early warning of criminal activities, allow for management and informed control of issues and enable minor issues that may have major outcomes to be managed or prevented
- Work collaboratively with the Agency's Operations functions to ensure that intelligence functions are managed consistently and within a risk management framework
- Work with the QCS Academy to develop and deliver intelligence training across QCS to enhance the capability of staff within QCS responsible for operational intelligence activities within the corrections system
- Monitor new and emerging technologies that may impact on the security and good order of a correctional centre
- Provide quality advice to senior management on important operational issues that will impact on decisions relating to security, domestic and family violence, drug strategy and offender progression
- Ensure operations are effective and efficient and adopt a mindset of continuous improvement
- Develop and maintain partnerships with key stakeholder groups (including contracted service providers, the Queensland Police Service, the Crime and
Corruption Commission and other agencies) to inform strategic development and effectively meet the needs of clients
- Represent the Agency professionally in negotiations with other Government Agencies and key law enforcement agencies as required
- Lead the development and implementation of policies and frameworks for the Agency intelligence and investigations functions and ensure that policies are consistent with the Whole of Government agenda and meet community needs and expectations
- Develop and implement the branch business plan and service charter
- Proactively manage the work performance and personal conduct of employees in accordance with the responsibilities under the Public Service Act and maintain own level of knowledge of legislation, policies and procedures relevant to managing staff and contemporary management practices
- Manage the workload and work practices of staff and facilitate the training and professional development needs of staff
- Analyse issues raised by branch staff raised in the annual Queensland Workforce Survey and develop and implement a response plan to address workforce concerns
-Develop and manage the branch budget in accordance with relevant legislation, standards, rules, procedures and delegations, and ensure good corporate governance
