The Lockyer Valley Correctional Centre is currently under construction. When complete in 2025, it will be a men's facility that will focus on rehabilitation to reduce offending.

What type of work will I do in the Trade Instructor Landscaper role?

A Trade Instructor Landscaper plays a vital role in the daily operations of ground maintenance and other activities which may include horticulture and landscaping activities within a correctional centre.

Below are some of the role's responsibilities. If you are successful, these are some of the activities you would do:

  • Manage and maintain gardens and grounds inside the correctional centre, ensuring all equipment is in correct working order and accounted for each day.
  • Ensure stock levels are appropriate.
  • Monitor tools and equipment ensuring they are maintained in accordance with operating instructions and health and safety principles.
  • Participate in the employment and induction of prison workers and provide training in the safe operation of gardening and landscaping tools and equipment.
  • Provide relevant training and education to prisoners.
  • Participate in procurement and stock control procedures.
  • Supervise the behaviour and activities of prisoners.
  • Create file notes and reports for case management.
  • Identify and respond appropriately to potential security risks.

What skills and experience do I need?

Whilst there are no mandatory qualifications for this position, possession of the relevant vocational qualification, trade certificate, or equivalent industry experience would be an advantage but not compulsory.

The incumbent will need to hold a current C class driver licence.

Certificate in Apply First Aid (HLTAID003). You must obtain this qualification prior to appointment.
