Queensland Corrective Services is looking for Trade Instructors who are committed to making a difference in other people's lives. We are now accepting applications for Trade Instructor roles at the Lockyer Valley Correctional Centre.

QCS commercial industries operate on a fee for service basis and include:

• laundry, textile, agricultural and dairy operations
• the manufacture and assembly of timber products and select furniture
• manufacture, fabrication and assembly of a wide range of alloy, stainless steel and metal products
• assembly and packing, painting and powder coating and mechanical work.

The Lockyer Valley Correctional Centre is currently under construction. When complete in 2025, it will be a men's facility that will focus on rehabilitation to reduce offending.

What type of work will I do in the Trade Instructor role?

A Trade Instructor plays a vital role in the daily operations of an industrial workshop within our correctional centres across Queensland.

Below are some of the role's responsibilities. If you are successful, these are some of the activities you would do:

  • Provide training to prisoners in relation to workshop and/or industry activities including the production of a variety of goods and services
  • Coordinate and schedule prisoner activities to achieve quality goods and production targets
  • Participate in procurement processes and stock control procedures
  • Supervise the behaviour and activities of prisoners.
  • Monitor and maintain the dynamic and static security requirements
  • Create file notes and reports for case management.

What skills and experience do I need?

Whilst there are no mandatory qualifications for this position, possession of the relevant vocational qualification, trade certificate, or equivalent industry experience would be an advantage.

The incumbent must hold a current C class driver licence.

Trade qualifications and/or experience in engineering/metal fabrication, laundry operations, timber product manufacture, textiles and clothing (e.g. sheet metal, fitter and turner, tool maker, boiler maker, blacksmith, carpentry, cabinet making, sewing machinist, pattern cutter, overlocker/finisher etc) would be well regarded.
