The Strategic Futures Command supports and assists QCS to adopt and embed a future focused and strategic view to improve organisational outcomes through a diverse range of activities focused on improving organisational performance and capability; research and evaluation; strategic partnership and stakeholder relationship management; strategic planning, management and reporting; operational performance, compliance and reporting; and innovation.
The Disruptive Events Management Unit (DEMU) has been established within the Strategic Futures Command to perform a specialised function in developing our broader disaster management capability as a standalone public safety agency. The significant work that is completed by DEMU includes the planning and preparing for disasters, the development of relevant plans, tests and exercises, as well as establishing the necessary protocols and structures.

The Principal Advisor - Training and Exercising, Disruptive Events Management Unit (DEMU) supports the transformation of the organisation's approach to disaster and emergency management. The focus of the role is supporting the establishment of QCS' disaster and emergency management capability through the development of appropriate frameworks, doctrine and policies.
As part of a centralised business function, this role will need to develop strong relationships with the immediate and wider business teams and be able to effectively collaborate across QCS Divisions.
In this role you will:
- Provide support for the implementation of the QCS Disaster and Emergency Management Framework.
- Develop and support the implementation of a fit-for-purpose disaster and emergency management training and exercising framework that takes account of operational complexity.
- Identify and report risks or impediments to the delivery of the DEMU's objectives and advise on the establishment of mitigation plans.
- Provide advice to senior management on insights or risks to achieving organisation-wide, disaster management objectives.
- Form and maintain quality relationships with internal stakeholders, with the goal of ensuring the department's strategic disaster and emergency management goals translate into improved risk and business continuity management.
- Prepare submissions, reports, briefing notes, presentations and correspondence relating to the responsibility of the Command delivery remit, up to the Executive Leadership Team, Commissioner, Cabinet, Parliament and to the general public.
- As required, attend professional forums, committee meetings and similar.
- Contribute to the Command's overarching delivery priorities, and where required provide support to other teams with peak workloads, or during periods of leave, to achieve critical deadlines.
- Model behaviour that ensures preservation of QCS reputation and interests through proactive risk management, clear communication, and transparent accountability for decision making.
- Contribute to a workplace environment that values performance, continuous improvement, innovation and integrity in the delivery of high-quality services.
