We are seeking a highly motivated, energetic and proactive lawyer to lead the Legal Strategy and Services Group.
Reporting to the Assistant Commissioner - General Counsel, Policy and Legal Command, this Director role will lead the management of litigation, provision of legal advice and representation for QCS in respect of a range of matters including:
• administrative law matters, including judicial reviews;
• human rights and anti-discrimination matters;
• coronial inquests
• workers compensation matters; and
• commercial maters.

Your key responsibilities:
- Deliver high quality and timely legal services and support to QCS, offering a strong understanding of the legislative and other legal and policy frameworks for the provision of services by QCS.
- Manage litigation including advocacy and briefing Crown Law and other legal service providers.
- Provide supervision, mentoring, training and professional development to a team of principal lawyers, senior lawyers, lawyers and graduate lawyers and work collaboratively and seamlessly with leaders across other groups within Policy and Legal Command.
- Build effective working relationships with senior officers within QCS with a strong focus on client service.
- Brief and report as necessary on legal matters that require escalation to senior management including the Assistant Commissioner - General Counsel and Deputy Commissioners.
- Be highly effective and advanced in oral and written communications with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
- Monitor and report on emerging developments in laws of relevance to QCS and the government.
- Drive, develop, implement and maintain appropriate systems to ensure continuous improvement in the delivery of cost effective legal services for QCS in accordance with Queensland public sector governance and policy requirements.
- Represent QCS in major initiatives with the central agencies of government, co-ordinate special projects as instructed by the Assistant Commissioner - General Counsel, and be involved in the preparation of papers for executive and senior management.
