Office Of The Deputy Commissioner Custodial Operations; Custodial Operations; Wacol
The State Armourer is responsible for the oversight, maintenance, and compliance of all QCS firearms, less-lethal weapons, and security equipment. Operating to support the safety and security of Queensland correctional centres, the State Armourer in consultation with local safety and security equipment coordinators ensure that all equipment under their stewardship is serviceable, accounted for, and issued in accordance with legislative, policy, and safety standards. This role requires a blend of technical proficiency, regulatory knowledge, and advisory expertise to support operational readiness and uphold public safety across QCS.
The role description provides the minimum requirements for the role. The incumbent may be required to undertake other duties as required. There may be instances where the incumbent will be required to work hours outside the normal work hours.

The essential requirements for this role are:
- A sound understanding of weapons and safety and security equipment.
- Demonstrated experience in the management, maintenance, and compliance of firearms or security equipment in a correctional environment or similar complex organisation.
- Demonstrated experience leading bodies of work in areas such as policy development, risk assessment, and the implementation of operational improvements.
- The ability to coach and mentor staff in best practices for the management and use of weapons and safety and security equipment.
- Meticulous approach to record-keeping, inventory management, governance and written documentation
- Strong capability to identify potential risks and develop practical solutions for complex safety and security challenges.
- Ability to analyse technical information, incident reports, and audit findings, transforming them into actionable recommendations.
- Demonstrated experience in procurement and budget reporting.
- Experience in the interpretation and application of legislation and procedures
- Organisational skills with the ability to set priorities, coordinate activities and meet deadlines
- Ability to use office automation software i.e. Microsoft, SAP
Qualifications, professional registration, conditions and other requirements
- Glock armourers course certification (or ability to achieve certification).
