Senior Case Manager


High Risk Offender Management Unit; Community Corrections; Community Corrections & Specialist Operations; Wacol

The High Risk Offender Management Unit (HROMU) team based in the Brisbane and Townsville regions is responsible for the supervision of offenders subject to a supervision order pursuant to the Dangerous Prisoners (Sexual Offenders) Act 2003 (DPSOA) residing throughout Queensland and the electronic monitoring of offenders on parole.

It comprises of the following work groups:

  • HROMU Strategic Risk and Support, including the Clinical Support Unit:
  • HROMU Operations SEQ, operating from Wacol:
  • HROMU Central to Far Northern, operating from Townsville and:
  • The Electronic Monitoring and Surveillance Unit (EMSU), responsible for the Statewide GPS monitoring of DPSOA offenders and offenders subject to Parole Supervision.

The Senior Case Manager (SCM) ensures a high level of community safety through the case management of offenders within the community in accordance with their assessed risk and need and maintains high standards of offender assessment practices that facilitate effective supervision and improve reintegration and rehabilitation of high-risk sexual and violent offenders. SCM's will manage a caseload of offenders who have been convicted of serious sexual offences, committed against adults and children and who may have cognitive impairments, diverse cultural backgrounds and co-morbidities. SCM's will interview offenders at Wacol and may be required to travel to Community Corrections offices in South East Queensland on a regular basis to interview offenders on their caseload. The primary goals for the SCM is to ensure community safety by effectively identifying and managing risk of sexual re-offending, engaging with a wide variety of stakeholders to secure suitable reintegrative opportunities for offenders and working closely with the leadership team to effectively oversight case management activities”. To be successful in this role, the ideal applicant will be someone who can demonstrate the following experience, knowledge and skills:

  • Able to demonstrate experience working within a legislative framework that underpins a core service delivery area.
  • Able to work self-sufficiently and be confident in your own professional discretion, reasoning, judgement and decision making skills prior to seeking management validation.
  • Able to demonstrate previous experiences of fostering a new relationship and receiving positive reinforcement in return to demonstrate the relationship was well developed.
  • Communicate professionally and engages with respect with colleagues, offenders, management and stakeholders. Experience in working collaboratively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to embrace diversity and maximise the whole range of skills and differences available within the workforce.

Qualifications, professional registration, conditions and other requirements:

  • Possession of a degree relevant for the human services or criminology fields such as Law, Justice, Humanities, Psychology, Social Sciences, Social Welfare, Health, Education, Business and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies
  • The incumbent will be required to undertake professional development and training relevant to the role as required and as deemed appropriate for the location of the advertised vacancy.
  • Individuals employed on a permanent or temporary basis will be required to complete Certificate IV in Correctional Practice (Community). All activities and assessments associated with the Certificate IV are to be completed within 12 months of commencing their employment, and certification achieved within 18 months.
