Director Security Standards Unit

Facilities and Assets; Infrastructure Asset Services and Major Capital Works Command; Organisational Capability; Brisbane

Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) is building something big — and we’re looking for a leader who thrives in complexity, sees around corners, and can architect the future of protective security across one of the state’s most critical operational environments.

This is your opportunity to stand up a specialist function, shape its culture from day one, and build the frameworks, policies and systems that will define how QCS protects its people, facilities and communities.

If you’re driven by purpose, motivated by challenge, and ready to lead a high performing team in a high risk, high stakes environment, this is the role that will stretch and reward you.

You will establish and lead a specialist team responsible for delivering the frameworks, policies and governance that define QCS's protective security posture. Your remit spans the full lifecycle of electronic security systems and operational technology, from policy design to system performance, cyber security assurance, infrastructure standards and risk management. Your team will deliver the agency's core security products, including a Protective Security Policy aligned to state frameworks, a cyber security roadmap for operational technology, annual cyber security attestation, OT specific information security policy aligned to IS18:2018 and ISO 27001, infrastructure design standards for custodial and community corrections environments, and an Infrastructure Risk Management Framework that drives prioritisation and mitigation of safety and security risks.

You'll build a high performing team with the capability to deliver this complex remit, embedding a culture of accountability, technical excellence and continuous improvement. You'll establish robust monitoring and control frameworks for custodial security systems, ensuring availability, reliability and strong feedback loops with end users. You'll oversee maintenance protocols that maximise system life and performance, and you'll lead the development and deployment of a comprehensive Security Policy Framework tailored to QCS's operational technology environment. As an active member of key governance groups, you'll represent QCS on emerging technology, system upgrades, performance issues and serviceability initiatives, while partnering closely with Infrastructure Command to ensure electronic security requirements are integrated into maintenance, construction and expansion projects.

Your leadership will extend into governance, where you'll manage annual OT cyber security attestation, evidence validation and executive endorsement. You'll establish a rigorous audit framework for system performance, KPIs, risk identification and escalation, and you'll actively manage threats, vulnerabilities and remediation pathways to protect system integrity. You'll also ensure human factor considerations are embedded into system configuration, performance frameworks, onboarding and training, recognising that technology and people must work together to deliver secure operations.

Continuous improvement will be a defining feature of your approach. You'll maintain currency of emerging technologies, cyber practices and security system innovations, and you'll promote a culture of review, learning and uplift across your team and end users. You'll encourage innovation, agile thinking and ideas generation across the Command, ensuring QCS remains responsive to evolving risks and opportunities.

As a senior leader, you'll model high calibre leadership behaviours and contribute actively to the Command Senior Leadership Team. You'll create a healthy, delivery focused team culture with clear standards of performance and accountability, maintain capability and competency to meet evolving demands, and build strong, credible relationships with stakeholders, end users, agency leaders and third parties — including unions — who may hold competing interests on sensitive issues.

To succeed in a leadership role focused on enhancing the safety and security of Queensland's correctional system, candidates require deep experience with complex electronic security systems in high-risk environments. Key requirements include a proven ability to lead high-performing teams, establish rigorous governance for complex assets, and possess strategic communication skills to influence executive levels.

Applications to remain current for 12 months.
