We are looking for someone with an interest in Indigenous literature and Australian publishing, who can work from a context of cultural respect and best practices.If this sounds like you, please feel free to contact the black&write! office with any questions.Please note this is not an entry-level role. Some publishing/editing experience is desirable for this position.

The black&write! Project works to effect lasting changes in the publishing industry through the recruitment, training and mentoring of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander editors and writers.

Our office is located on the second floor of the State Library of Queensland building at South Bank, Brisbane. We share our space with resident literary organisations Queensland Writers Centre, Queensland Poetry Festival, Children's Book Council of Australia and BookLinks.

As the Junior Editor, you will be passionate about contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander writing. You will support the Editor, black&write! and Lead, Reading and Writing, as part of a small team. You will contribute to the development and delivery of a range of projects, including:

  • Contributing editorial expertise to develop the winning manuscripts received through the black&write! Writing Fellowship competition
  • Building effective editorial relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander writers and black&write! project partners.
  • Working collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander authors and project partners to ensure projects are delivered within agreed deadlines
  • Providing guidance and support for black&write! Editor Interns
  • Events and publications featuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander authors.
