The Townsville Hospital and Health Service is the largest tertiary health service in northern Australia; we are responsible for the delivery of healthcare services, education and research within a region covering over 149,500km with a population of approximately 250,000 people.

We're currently seeking Indigenous Hospital Liaison Officers to join our team. We have a permanent part-time (38 hrs p.f.) vacancy and a temporary part-time (53.2 hrs p.f.) vacancy up to 11/12/2022 available.

About your opportunity
The primary purpose of this position is to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, their families and carers accessing the Townsville Hospital Health Service receive effective, coordinated and culturally capable health care.

You will provide cultural consultancy to health professionals and staff and provides health education to the patients of the health services.

Key duties include:

  • Prioritise and provide support services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families to facilitate their navigation through the health care system by: mobilising family and community resources, assisting with the interpretation of medical terms and treatment options and assist in discharge planning.
  • Provide advice and support to the Townsville Hospital staff that enhances the delivery of services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
  • Attend and participate in Ward rounds, family meetings and multi-disciplinary meetings related to your Ward allocation.
  • Liaise with relevant community service agencies regarding the provision of integrated and coordinated systems of care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Provide cultural consultation to Townsville Hospital health professions and staff that will assist in the establishment of a culturally capable Townsville Hospital and Health Service.
  • Support the Townsville Hospital and Health Service, Cultural Capability Programme, and provide in-house professional development to The Townsville Hospital staff when requested.

Role requirements:

  • Current 'C' class motor vehicle licence.
  • Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander to work with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.   • COVID-19 vaccination requirements: It is a mandatory condition of employment for the employee to be and remain vaccinated against COVID-19, as per Health Employment Directive 12/21 and Queensland Health Human Resources Policy B70.

Generous remuneration package based on full-time equivalent value up to $99,990 p.a. comprising salary range of $40.11 to $44.19 p.h. (AO4), 17.5% leave loading, 12.75 % employer contribution to superannuation.
