Senior Patrol Officer

Operating from within Invasive Plants and Animals you will undertake monitoring, maintenance and repair of the Wild Dog Barrier Fence that protect approximately 26.5 million hectares of sheep and cattle grazing country. You will also guide and support your team mates in doing the same. The Senior Patrol Officer will often be required to work in remote locations away from their base for long periods and in various weather conditions and to operate various heavy machinery.

What you will do
• Support the Wild Dog Barrier Fence Project Manager and the Senior Operations Officer both by conducting and by supervising teams of up to 8 persons conducting routine inspections (patrolling)/assessment of assigned sections of the Wild Dog Barrier Fence
• Along with your direct on-the-ground observations, review team member reports of current and emerging maintenance needs, apparent inadequacies and breaches of fence integrity and hazards to fence integrity (e.g. trees, evidence of burrowing or erosion etc.)
• Supervise team carrying out construction, repair and maintenance of the Wild Dog Barrier Fence (WDBF) infrastructure (e.g. camps, gates, grids, floodways), assist in the work yourself and check that tasks are completed to the required standard. Conduct routine inspection (patrolling) of assigned section/s of the WDBF.
• Maintain and support team members in maintaining sufficient knowledge, skill, dexterity, fitness and emotional health to safely undertake core duties.
• Assist the WDBF Project Manager and Senior Operations Officer with continual public relations aimed at making landholders fully aware of the need for the establishment and maintenance of the WDBF and support team members in maintaining positive communications with the public/landowners.
• Make safe, appropriate and skilled use of vehicles, machines and hand tools (including powered hand tools) and follow workplace health and safety procedures and ensure that team members do the same.
• Accept full responsibility for the safe and efficient use of equipment, materials and pesticides issued and furnish required stock control records and inventories.
• Model excellent team skills and foster positive communication within the team and between teams by communicating with WDBF management and other patrols on daily progress and activities using HF/UHF radio, Sat phone or mobile as applicable.
• Check patrol officer reports and maintenance of vehicle records, hours of work, stock control records and inventories and provide reports to WDBF Project Manager and Senior Operations Officer as required e.g. submit monthly diary activities, vehicle records, timesheets etc.
• Supervise and train nominated patrol officer and advise WDBF management of the team's training needs.
• Perform additional duties as directed.

You must also have:
• Current open manual “C” (car) class driver's license is required.
• Experience in 4x4 off-road driving
• Experience in outdoor labouring e.g. digging, lifting, carrying, climbing over a fence
• You will be exposed to Western Queensland temperature conditions as well as a range of dangerous flora and fauna.
