Are you passionate about coastal processes, coastal hazards, and the physical modelling of coastal protection works?

We are looking for a motivated, experienced, and professional person to manage the physical modelling activities within the Queensland Government Hydraulics Laboratory (QGHL).

As Senior Scientist, Coastal Engineering you will be responsible for managing and undertaking physical modelling projects, including the handling of enquiries, providing quotes, contract development, model design, setup, testing, data processing and analysis, and report production. You will also need to manage adhoc teams to undertake these works and have responsibility for the Quality Management System related to physical modelling. The position also provides scientific and technical support for a wide range of projects and enquiries associated with coastal physical processes.

The Senior Scientist, Coastal Engineering is responsible for managing and undertaking all aspects of our physical modelling projects at Queensland
Government Hydraulics Laboratory (QGHL).

As the Senior Scientist, Coastal Engineering (PO4) you will:
• Project manage and undertake all aspects of physical modelling activities of the Queensland Government Hydraulics Laboratory, including but not limited to:
- Project administration such as procurement, project plans and concept approvals, contract negotiation and administration.
- Provision of advice on the development, construction, and testing of physical models.
- Development of detailed works planning for physical modelling.
- Ensuring model construction and testing meet client and technical standards and requirements.
- Supervising the recording and proper storage of all documentation and data relating to all aspects of the physical model.
- Management of the physical modelling Quality Management System (ISO 9001:2015).
• Assist the Principal Engineer/Scientist, Coastal Assessment, Science and Engineering (PO5) by:
- Providing high-level technical advice in relation to coastal processes, coastal impacts and hydrodynamic modelling.
• Undertaking or managing projects to resolve complex issues related to coastal processes, including the evaluation of outputs from consultants.
• Support the department's role in the Queensland Storm Tide Warning Response System by acting as a storm tide advisor during disaster events.
• Foster and develop good relationships with clients and stakeholders.
• Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of First Nations people and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations people.

We're looking for the best suited applicant for the role. The position also requires the ability to undertake manual labour to develop and implement physical models.

The position is based in Deagon and is full-time, however travel to other offices and for field work is required from time to time. To be eligible for employment in this position, you must hold a degree qualification in Science or Engineering or agreed equivalent.
