Queensland State Archives (QSA) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Conservator to join our team and contribute to the conservation and preservation of analogue archival records held at QSA.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Conservator to apply their expert knowledge and experience to conserve and preserve records for the use and benefit of present and future generations.

We are looking for a Senior Conservator to join the Preservation Services team in this exciting and rewarding role.
In this role you will:
• use your paper conservation skills to perform complex treatments on a wide range of archival records in accordance with the Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Material (AICCM) Code of Ethics and Practice to meet operational and strategic objectives
• undertake examinations, condition assessments and reporting and develop treatment proposals to implement best-practice treatments on archival records
• prepare archival records for exhibits, loans and permanent storage, including design and fabrication of customised housings, supports, matting and framing to appropriate conservation standards
• produce documentation and reports and capture relevant information for collection management and conservation work in the archival management system with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
• research and analyse materials and formats of records in the archival collection and new and emerging technologies in the field of conservation to determine composition, condition, and degradation processes, and identify best-practice treatment options, and preventive actions for the continuous improvement of treatments
• operate a wide range of conservation and digitisation equipment
• lead and/or undertake preventive conservation activities such as, integrated pest management, environmental monitoring, disaster preparedness and response, rehousing projects and other collection care activities
• provide specialist advice to internal and external stakeholders including government agencies and the public
• deliver training, presentations and seminars on conservation topics to QSA staff, government agencies and the public
• provide guidance and/or mentoring to graduate conservators, students, and volunteers.
• actively participate in problem-solving around collection preservation and continuous business improvement activities ensuring relevant policies, procedures and guidelines meet best practice
• work effectively within the Preservation Services team and across business areas with colleagues and peers while contributing to a productive and positive work environment
• ensure compliance with Departmental policies, practices and procedures relating to Workplace Health and Safety.
