We’re looking for a senior policy officer to contribute to reform of Queensland's environmental offsets framework. The role is varied, and the successful candidate will demonstrate a broad and adaptable skillset and an ability to identifying opportunities to work with key stakeholders with a view to improving delivery of conservation outcomes and ecologically sustainable development.

Your contribution:
• Provide expertise, policy support and sound advice that is robust and evidence based for the management and conservation biodiversity outcomes for both landscape, marine and aquatic ecosystems in Queensland.
• Analyse and interpret information relating to management and conservation biodiversity outcomes from a variety of sources utilising appropriate tools and prepare high quality reports, correspondence, briefings, presentations and guidelines for internal and external use.
• Engage with key stakeholders in the business, industry, government and conservation sectors to identify issues and areas for improvement of government policy.
• Develop effective working relationships with other staff within the department, within the Queensland Public Sector, and with relevant external organisations in relation to environmental offset policies, practices and regulations.
• Provide project management and support to the Offsets Policy team as required.
• Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of First Nations people and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations people.

About you:
• Demonstrated ability to manage projects and tasks, including within a dynamic, professional environment with a focus on accountability and deliverables
• Proven research and problem-solving skills to enable assessment of complex issues across science, technical, policy and legislation to environmental issues
• Ability to work autonomously, meet deadlines, establish priorities and work as an effective member of a team to successfully contribute to organisational objectives
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication, consultation, negotiation and liaison skills to represent the department professionally with key stakeholders and industry
• Sound knowledge or the ability to acquire knowledge of public sector legislation, policies and standards relating to environmental offsets in Queensland.
• Desirable: experience using Geographical Information Systems, complex spreadsheets and databases
