The Path to Treaty Act 2023 establishes a First Nations Treaty Institute and the Truth-telling and Healing Inquiry (the Inquiry). The Inquiry will be hosted by the Department of Treaty, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, Communities and Arts.
You will provide legal review and advice to guide the Inquiry response work. This role assesses incoming requests for legal issues, liaises with Legal Services, Crown Law and agency experts, and provides advice on any additional legal
resourcing required to respond.

You will work within a team comprising trauma prevention and research expertise to develop policies and guidelines for the preparation of Inquiry responses to: guide agencies; ensure legislative compliance and best practice; ensure consistency, efficiency and collaborative processes; and uphold the principles of the Statement of Commitment to a Reframed Relationship.
Key responsibilities include:
• Review Inquiry requests for potential legal issues. Distribute and co-ordinate Inquiry requests to Queensland Government agencies and provide policy and process advice to agencies on approaches to Queensland Government responses and submissions as required.
• Support stakeholder engagement with whole of government networks to ensure robust governance, high quality and evidence-based decision making, and risk management. Monitor progress of responses and undertake strategic engagement to resolve issues.
• Undertake legal review of Queensland Government responses including those prepared for Directors-General and senior executives participating in Inquiry
hearings to advise on legal considerations and approaches.
• Work with Legal Services and Crown Law to prepare legal advice for the Queensland Government on Inquiry issues as required, providing clear and concise details on the legal and policy context, issues, and interpretation and application of legislation.
• Analyse complex and/or rapidly evolving issues, generate critical insights and provide briefing and recommendations for senior executives.
• Support governance, program management, budget and administrative support to drive the Queensland Government's active participation in the Inquiry.
• Contribute to the culture of the work area to support the vision and values of the Department.
