The role of the Caseworker (Domestic and Family Violence) is to support and case manage young people subject to a youth justice intervention who are affected by domestic and family violence as a victim, perpetrator or exposure in any way. The Caseworker will work collaboratively as part of the High Risk Team comprising of government and non-government partners, and coordinate service delivery between the High Risk Team and Youth Justice Service Centres to ensure required actions and referrals are undertaken in a timely and efficient manner.

This role will also help establish the Domestic and Family Violence integrated response and High-Risk Team for Cherbourg Youth Justice Service Centre, therefore will help develop processes and tools as well as engagement, information-sharing and reporting protocols between stakeholders.

The Caseworker DFV and HRT key responsibilities are:

  • Deliver best practice statutory casework services to young people, and contribute to the development of safety plans using sound assessment and intervention skills to deliver integrated and culturally appropriate services, including engaging with families, community organisations and other key stakeholders, in accordance with the legislative, policy and procedural requirements.
  • Design, implement and review youth justice responses to domestic and family violence and strengthen protocols, tools and referral pathways with relevant agencies to ensure individuals experiencing domestic and family violence can easily access appropriate support and assistance.
  • Develop reporting systems to monitor and evaluate the Domestic and Family Violence Integrated Response.
  • Promote use of the domestic and family violence common assessment tool to refer young people to the High Risk Team and commit to actions, prioritise matters and arrange for allocation of resources to ensure a rapid response to high-risk cases.
  • Prepare and present information and evidence to the Children's Court, including an ability to conduct pre and post court interviews, liaise with key court stakeholders and prepare pre-sentence reports, affidavits and other documentation as required.
  • Establish partnerships and consult with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders and service providers in a number of local areas, to achieve quality casework outcomes.
  • Undertake a range of information management and reporting tasks including: data entry, maintenance of case records, preparation of performance and trend reports and ensure all confidential information shared with partner agencies is in accordance with established protocols and legislation.
  • Actively participate in training and professional development activities to develop, maintain and enhance knowledge and competencies to ensure that service delivery is based on contemporary, evidence based, best practice principles and is consistent with current practice trends and departmental objectives. Share knowledge with the youth justice team to raise awareness of domestic and family violence as it relates to youth justice clients and integrate a domestic and family violence framework for practice.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to the good governance and objectives of the directorate and department.
