The Opportunity
Take your career as a Ranger to the very edge - of the Great Barrier Reef! We're seeking an experienced & enthusiastic Ranger to join our team in the Capricorn Coast region of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. As part of the Reef Joint Field Management Program and in partnership with Traditional Owner Groups, you'll ensure that Queensland's national and marine parks, state forests and reserves are protected, accessible and valued by all.
Rangers work on a roster basis which can also include regular weekend and public holiday work. Prior approved overtime, travel and anchoring out allowances are payable consistent with the Parks and Wildlife Employees Award - State 2016 (PWEA), in addition to the basic salary structure. Eligible temporary candidates are entitled to relieving expenses as provided for in the Domestic Travel and Relieving Expenses Directive 13/23.
Diverse, interesting work and experiences
This role is part of a unique team who have the responsibility of delivering conservation projects focused on habitat restoration, improved visitor management and maintenance of reef protection infrastructure within the Mackay/Capricorn Management Area. This role will assist the Ranger in Charge to deliver these tasks and is expected to be responsible for leading procurement processes for plant, equipment and services and the supervision of contractors, volunteers and other non-departmental personnel to deliver project milestones on remote islands within the Southern Great Barrier Reef.

Working Regional
You and your ranger mates will be largely self-reliant. You'll regularly undertake offshore patrols by vessel or light aircraft to conduct inspections and investigations at islands, reefs, and remote locations across the area. You'll need the flexibility to participate in remote offshore operations and be the solver of marine park and island protected area management issues; you're the go-to person! Off the clock, you'll be spoilt for choice of activities, with the spectacular Great Barrier Reef and beautiful coastline at your doorstep; diving, camping, and fishing are staple activities for us here.
Please Note: this recruitment process may be used to fill further vacancies across the Great Barrier Reef and Marine Parks Region, these positions could be in the following locations: Cairns, Townsville, Airlie Beach, Rosslyn Bay or Gladstone.
To be considered you must:
1. hold an unrestricted manual driver's licence
