About the role

  • To oversee the provision of professional clinical physics support services in brachytherapy treatment planning and delivery, brachytherapy radiation dosimetry and radiation safety and protection.
  • To oversee clinical physics support for pulsed dose rate brachytherapy and therapeutic iodine-131 treatments.
  • To provide supervision of TEAP candidates and radiation safety training of other staff.
  • To participate in medical physics research and manage medical physics service development projects.
  • To be a Radiation Safety Officer for Cancer Care Services, Radiation Oncology.

About you

This successful applicant will carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:

  • Oversee the provision of professional clinical physics support services in brachytherapy treatment planning and delivery, brachytherapy radiation dosimetry and radiation safety and be accountable for quality within the brachytherapy clinical service area. Including:
    • Oversee clinical physics support for high dose rate and pulsed dose rate brachytherapy treatments.
    • Administer the acquisition, safe storage, installation and acceptance of sealed sources for high dose rate and pulsed dose rate brachytherapy treatment units, including obtaining all regulatory approvals and ensuring the safe return of depleted sources.
  • Perform Radiation Safety Officer duties as required. Including:
    • Provide advice on radiation protection, including shielding design and safe operating practices, and interpretation of legislative requirements.
    • Manage the storage facility for sealed radioactive sources, ensuring compliance with the relevant Standard issued under the Radiation Safety Act 1999.
  • Contribute to the provision of clinical physics support in other areas within radiation oncology medical physics including linear accelerator physics (including IMRT, VMAT, SRS, SBRT and Tomotherapy), treatment planning physics and radiation dosimetry.
