Three OO4 Ranger positions are advertised, one position is at Kenilworth and two at Maleny, (Blackall and Glass House) all positions are within the Sunshine Coast Area which forms part of the large, diverse operational South East Queensland Region.

These role’s focus area is to support the Second in Charge (2IC) and the Ranger in Charge for the Kenilworth, Blackall and Glass House Work Units in the delivery and coordination of the operational works program. Rangers within all areas work across focus areas of fire, visitor, pest and asset management which assist in meeting natural resource management requirements for the protected areas.

We are looking for a team player who supports colleagues and the broader team in Kenilworth, Blackall and Glass House units to lead by example in the behaviour and values adopted by the department. These positions are responsible for supervising other rangers in the field. Successful applicants must value diversity and inclusivity and adapt their management style to work with a range of people. The position may be required to oversee the work of external contractors, so an understanding of safe work practices, procurement and financial practices will be beneficial.

As the OO4 Ranger you will:
• Carry out park management duties including plant operation and maintenance, natural and cultural resource management, project management, fire management, weed and pest control and the development and maintenance of park infrastructure.
• Assist with the development and implementation of annual work programs for recreational and infrastructure development including the allocation of resources within a limited budget.
• Perform regular compliance and enforcement tasks in campgrounds and on suspected breaches of relevant acts and permits. Assist senior staff and staff from other Agencies with investigations as required.
• Perform general public contact duties including answering enquiries and providing advice, park patrols and undertake liaison with various stakeholders as required.
• Follow and assist in emergency response procedures including natural disaster contingency plans, wildfire response procedures, search and rescue procedures and medical emergency procedures.
• Participate in a team and assist with the supervision of subordinate staff, students and volunteers and implement and monitor workplace health and safety, staff performance management measures and equal employment opportunity principles and practices, whilst maintaining a positive and productive culture.
• Undertake administrative duties such as compiling and maintaining maintenance records and procurement of goods and services.
• Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of First Nations people and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations people.
