Principal Policy Officer
Varroa Mite Management; Plant Biosecurity and Product Integrity; Biosecurity Queensland; Negotiable – Preferred location Brisbane
We are looking for a Principal Policy Officer to join our high performing team within the Varroa Mite Innovation and Resilience Initiative to:
• Lead or contribute to the preparation and development of high-level advice, responses, plans, reports, policy documents, briefing notes and other departmental correspondence, under the general direction of the Manager, Projects in accordance with departmental & national plant biosecurity requirements.
• Contribute analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills to Varroa mite management planning and preparedness, including the ability to coordinate multiple tasks within agreed priorities, timeframes and accountabilities and to identify opportunities for ongoing business improvement.
• Represent Queensland at national fora and working groups relevant to the role as required and work to promote Biosecurity Qld.

Working within Plant Biosecurity and Product Integrity, you provide high-level support to the Varroa Mite Innovation and Resilience Initiative team which seeks to minimise the impacts of Varroa mite on Queensland's honey bee and pollination-reliant industries. Your efforts will be integral in safeguarding affected stakeholders by collectively managing Varroa mite through shared responsibility with industry.
You will know that you're achieving success in the role when you:
- Manage and coordinate a small diverse team implementing the Queensland Varroa Mite Innovation and Resilience Initiative (VMIRI).
- Provide high-level, timely, and independent advice on program performance, planning, and governance matters.
- Critically analyse, collate and present data to support performance analysis and planning, review and enhance Program Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
