QBuild is a commercialised business unit of the Queensland Government.  It has been Queensland Government's builder for over 160 years, playing an important role in communities across the state by building and maintaining government-owned assets such as schools, social housing, police stations and correctional and health facilities.

About the role

You will play a pivotal role in supporting QBuild's ambition to strengthen Queensland's building and construction industry by providing strong leadership by addressing critical issues and developing and implementing the strategic interventions necessary to ensure the success of Workplace Health and Safety (WH&S) strategies across QBuild Operations.

Duties and skills involved:

  • Oversee regional activities to ensure Workplace Health Safety and Environment (WHS&E) compliance and manage Safety Management System implementation, risk identification, and audit programs.
  • Provide expert advice to operational, supervisory, and senior management on QBuild's Safety Management System, legislative compliance, and new technologies.
  • Conduct WHS&E audits and inspections to ensure compliance for both QBuild and contractor work.
  • Coordinate training and information sessions, ensuring state WHS training systems are maintained.
  • Lead incident and hazard investigations, reporting, and improvement strategies.
  • Develop and implement organizational change strategies to improve safety culture and performance across QBuild.

Preferred skills and experience:

  • WHS&E experience in construction, maintenance, or similar industry.
  • Certificate IV in WHS would be highly desirable.
