The Racing Appeals Panel operates as an independent review and integrity mechanism for the racing industry and provides quick, accessible and fair reviews of stewards’ decisions for all codes of racing in Queensland.

As the Deputy Registrar, you will support the Registrar in the administration of the day-to-day operations of the Racing Appeals Panel. Under the direction and guidance of the Registrar, you will provide services and administrative support to all stakeholders, including the Panel, and assist in co-ordinating Hearings for Applications for Review.

What you will bring

  • Implement and manage the day-to-day operations of a complex, stand-alone appeals management function with responsibility to ensure efficient, effective and quality service delivery
  • Oversee and streamline administrative procedures and activities to support the appeals management, including accurately maintaining records, managing payments for panel renumeration and ensuring the application portal and back-end systems function as required.
  • Manage arrangements to enable the Panel to review applications within statutory timeframes, including scheduling hearings, coordinating documents to be distributed to all parties, arranging travel for panel members and organising any other logistics required by the Panel
  • Support the panel in hearings with registry services including transcription services, admission of evidence, swearing in of witnesses and coordinating virtual attendance
  • Contribute and prepare reports, information and recommendations to support the registrar and enable the chairperson, deputy chairperson and panel members to perform their statutory roles in accordance with the legislation
  • Provide advice to the registrar and the chairperson on business improvement opportunities for the practice, procedures and operation of the Racing Appeals Panel, and execute agreed changes
  • Perform other duties required to meet demand as requested by the registrar
  • Contribute to establishing and maintaining a high performing team to deliver required work of the Panel within timeframes, budget and quality standards
  • Engage with a wide variety of stakeholders including industry bodies and representatives, government, applicants, witnesses, and members of the community as part of managing day to day operations of the Panel.
  • Represent the Racing Appeals Panel at forums, workshops and meetings as required.

You may also have

Ability to quickly acquire knowledge in the delivery of justice system services and review processes including natural justice and procedural fairness to ensure compatibility with human rights.
