Do you want to shape the recovery of Queensland’s threatened species? The Threatened Species Operations Unit within QPWS&P is looking for an experienced Manager to deliver and support the DESI Threatened Species Program across the state.
Are you a passionate conservation Manager with experience in leading teams in the development, implementation and evaluation of threatened species recovery initiatives? Do you have experience in setting and planning strategic direction for threatened species recovery? Are you someone who can build effective and enduring partnerships and collaborations with government, non-government, community and research stakeholders? The person we’re looking for can contribute excellent leadership and management skills to lead a team in the delivery of the DESI Threatened Species Program.

As an AO8 Manager, Threatened Species Operations, you will lead a diverse team of experienced professionals responsible for establishing and supporting threatened species programs and partnerships to improve recovery outcomes. You will have excellent leadership and management skills and support the Director, Threatened Species Operations to deliver the Threatened Species Program across the state. You are a team player, who will work with staff from across the unit as well as regularly engage and build relationships with other departmental units, government agencies, research institutions, Traditional Owners, natural resource management groups, non-government organisations and species experts.
You will be required to draw on your conservation and threatened species management expertise to support your team in managing projects from planning through to delivery, as well as lead key initiatives under the Threatened Species Program.
To be successful in this position you must have:
Experience in leading teams to manage projects, budgets and resources in a rapidly changing work environment with competing priorities to deliver business outcomes. You will lead a diverse team to deliver state-wide programs that involve a range of partners and stakeholders and that support threatened species recovery. You will have experience in ensuring effective and consistent service delivery and quality outcomes coupled with efficient management of financial and human resources. You will use your management skills to support your team to manage multiple projects from conception through to delivery and reporting, and have a solution-focused approach to challenges.
A thorough knowledge of best practice threatened species recovery principles and practices The work we do uses best practice evidenced-based principles and information to support the recovery of threatened species. We are looking for someone with a thorough understanding of principles of conservation and threatened species management and ability to apply this evidence to developing recovery programs and finding solutions to emerging issues.
Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills You will apply high level communication and negotiation skills to develop effective relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. We are looking for someone who can apply their communication skills to prepare high level briefs and correspondence on complex issues and proposals
