Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) is a branch of the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) within the Customer Services, Safety and Regulation (CSSR) Division. Our role in MSQ is to protect Queensland's waterways and the people who use them – providing safer, cleaner seas.
In the role of Executive Director (Port Operations & Vessel Traffic Services), you will play a key role in the delivery of Queensland's critical port operations, vessel traffic services, Smartship Australia services hydrographic and spatial services, maritime emergency management and pilotage regulation.

About the role
As the Functional Lead for the Port Operations and Vessel Traffic Services (POVTS) section, the Executive Director is integral in supporting the General Manager (MSQ) and the Deputy Director-General (CSSR) in policy and strategic advice for the delivery of critical port operations and vessel traffic services. The Executive Director (POVTS) works closely with Regional Harbour Masters along Queensland's coast to successfully lead, manage and deliver on MSQ's significant priorities.
You will oversee Queensland's state-of-the-art Smartship Australia facilities, providing maritime simulation services to ensure marine pilots are appropriately trained, and you will play a critical role in MSQ's maritime emergency management response across Queensland.
About you
The Executive Director (POVTS) requires a strategic executive leader with significant maritime experience (both ashore and sea-going) and a proven track record of success as an executive or senior manager within a large, complex and decentralised organisation. You possess a high-level of knowledge and understanding of maritime safety matters and industry developments at the departmental, state, national and international level, including their implications for TMR and the government of the day.
With strong stakeholder management skills, you will develop effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including equivalent agencies in other states, local government, authorities and industry bodies, to negotiate and influence outcomes on behalf of MSQ. You will strive to be a dynamic and supportive leader, demonstrating your passion for the development of people and your focus on continuous improvement.
