Want to be a marine ranger with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service in Hervey Bay? We’re seeking a Ranger in Charge for daily marine operations in the Great Sandy Marine Park, from Baffle Creek to Double Island Point and around K’gari. Your tasks will vary from marine compliance and responding to marine mammal strandings to wildfire responses and reef health surveys. As a Ranger in Charge, you'll be dedicated to preserving and managing the Great Sandy Marine Park, protected islands, and culturally significant sites. Your leadership, communication, and mentoring skills will be key as you tackle evolving priorities.

This role offers numerous opportunities to learn, discover, and grow. You will regularly face both familiar and complex issues, allowing you to continually test, refine, and enhance your practical and leadership skills. Supported by a range of online training and learning programs, you will develop competencies that benefit your career with the Department and beyond.

In a collaborative and innovative environment, you'll form valuable professional relationships with Traditional Owners and other state government departments. Leading and guiding the Urangan Management Unit, you'll build strong connections with colleagues across the state, fostering a positive, safe, diverse, and inclusive work culture.

Key attributes:

  • A strong understanding of marine operations, conservation, natural resource management and workplace health and safety (both physical and psychological)
  • Courageous and ethical leadership and good communication skills
  • The ability to form trusted relationships with First Nations partners
  • Skills in organization, change management, and teamwork
  • Compliance and enforcement skills
  • Administrative, reporting and computer skills

To be considered you must:

  • Hold an unrestricted manual driver's licence
  • Provide your current resume (max 6 pages), and
  • Provide a short statement (max 2 pages) explaining your interest in the role and what strengths you will bring relevant to the key attributes of the role.
