The Coastal and Islands Region covers a diverse landscape stretching from the world’s largest sand island, World Heritage-listed K’gari, (Fraser Island) to the Southern Bay Islands in the south.
The Region experiences very high visitation and high-profile compliance issues in its national parks and recreation areas. QPWS uses innovative Number Plate Recognition Technology as a primary tool for vehicle access permit (VAP) compliance.
We are looking for a motivated professional to join the Automatic Number Plate Recognition System (ANPRS) team and provide support to operational rangers. This is an office-based position with limited options for field work.

This is an office-based compliance role within the Coastal and Islands Region's Visitor Management Team with limited opportunities for field work. This role supports the 006 Ranger (Compliance) manage the Automatic Number Plate Recognition System (ANPRS). Duties will include undertaking simple to complex investigations and the issue of Penalty Infringement Notices (PINs) via the departmental electronic system. It will also include conducting PIN reviews and responding to customer enquiries and complaints. The incumbent must be an authorised officer under the Recreation Areas Management Act 2006. The role requires a high-level ability to utilise QPWS booking systems and other information systems, as well as being proficient in MS Excel. The successful applicant will have excellent customer service and communication skills, be capable of working autonomously and in a team, and have excellent attention to detail.

This position is required to work Monday to Friday with limited requirements for weekend work.

Your role
As the Ranger you will:
• Supervise a work group to perform tasks and deliver project outcomes.
• Contribute as a member of a team to the preparation of annual work programs for recreational and infrastructure maintenance and development including the acquisition and allocation of resources within budgets.
• Plan and deliver specific projects including the development and maintenance of park infrastructure and initiatives, plant operation and maintenance, natural and cultural resource management, fire management, weed and pest control.
• Compile and maintain reports and records, participate in human resource and budget management processes and the procurement goods and services. This includes use of computer systems and applications.
• Perform customer contact duties including answering enquiries, providing education and advice, and conducting park patrols.
• Perform compliance and enforcement tasks on suspected breaches of relevant acts and permit conditions. Assist senior staff and staff from other agencies with investigations as required.
• Maintain productive relationships with stakeholders including neighbouring landholders, other government departments and local Indigenous communities.
• Plan and co-ordinate emergency response procedures including natural disaster contingency plans, wildfire response procedures, search and rescue procedures, and medical emergency procedures.
• Operate and maintain a variety of departmental plant and equipment.
• Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of First Nations people and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations people.
