This is a strategic and operational leadership role that coordinates and supports a multi-disciplinary team in visitor centre management, delivery of koala husbandry activities, maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, asset maintenance and community engagement activities as partof the South East Queensland Koala Conservation Strategy 2020-2025.

Built by the Queensland Government as a dedicated koala education facility, the Daisy Hill Koala Centre was opened to the public in 1995. Located within the Daisy Hill Conservation Park, the Daisy Hill Koala Centre is the best place to learn about koalas and their conservation. The centre has a large, immersive koala exhibit as well as informative and interactive exhibits that reveal the unique qualities of this iconic species and the efforts to conserve it. The centre operates as part of the Gateway Visitor Centres team which also consists of David Fleay Wildlife Park and Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre.
This role provides leadership and direction to the Daisy Hill Koala Centre and oversees the day-to-day operations of the centre. Your leadership skills will be required in setting work priorities, allocating resources, maintaining high performanc and high-quality outcomes, and strategic planning. Your administrative skills will be used to deliver and report on annual work schedules, budgets for salaries, operations and capital including capital projects and strategic asset maintenance.
You'll be at the forefront of innovative conservation communications initiatives striving to halt the decline of koala populations in Queensland as part of the South East Queensland Koala Conservation Strategy 2020-2025. Your project management skills and knowledge of project management methodologies, principles and practices, will be required to successfully develop and deliver projects, in a dynamic, changing environment, for cutting edge communication and community engagement activities as well as capital works to enhance the exhibits and centre infrastructure.
Effective communications and stakeholder engagement skills are a critical requirement for this role. You will have the opportunity to work with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including First Nations People, to develop and deliver a range of community engagement activities and resources to deliver positive outcomes for koalas.
Throughout the term of your position, which is temporary until 17 July 2025 with the possibility of an extension, you will be a role model for our leadership behaviours. With your communication prowess, you'll foster a culture that pro motes the interests of First Nations people and engage through your work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations people in Queensland.
