There exists an exclusive opportunity for an Indigenous Identified OO6 Ranger position centred around the Cape York Management Area, based in Cairns. This special role is not just about overseeing, but also about actively shaping and advancing the Northern Region's compliance program. The heart of this role is to guide and mentor, providing expertise and leadership in compliance operations, both proactive and reactive—essentially, ensuring the well-being of the land and its people.
You will play a pivotal role in educating and training Department staff as well as the Indigenous Land Trust and Corporation Rangers under the visionary CYPAL Joint Management Program. Ensuring the land remains protected and compliance is upheld, your efforts will also include engaging with the community, upholding laws, and respecting Traditional lore.
Part of your mission will involve active patrol duties, as well as the swift handling of any issues that require reactive investigation, always working toward the best outcome in adherence to departmental legislation. Holding the appropriate Authorised Officer status will enable you to collaborate with senior staff in presenting Indigenous Compliance Training Courses, reinforcing our combined expertise and knowledge.
While primarily situated in the dynamic Cape York Management Area, your role is multifaceted, merging both field experiences and essential office responsibilities. Expect to spend up to 10 days a month travelling, especially during the dry season, traversing the region's remote landscapes by four-wheel drive, and when needed, from the skies as part of the Cape York Aerial Compliance Program or via watercraft.
As a Ranger, you are the guardian of Queensland's natural heritage—its national parks, state forests, and reserves, ensuring these treasures are safe, reachable, and treasured. In partnership with local communities and stakeholders, you'll be directly influencing land management, recreation, and conservation outcomes, honouring the principles of a variety of critical environmental legislations. This role is a calling for those deeply connected to Indigenous culture and tradition, eager to apply your knowledge to safeguard Queensland's environmental legacy while actively participating in and leading compliance and enforcement efforts. We welcome you to step forward and join us on this journey of stewardship and service.
Applications will remain current for 12 months.
