The Queensland Academy of Sport's mission is to inspire extraordinary sporting success. We recently brought this mission to life when 191 Queensland athletes proudly wore green and gold while representing Australia at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Paris 2024 will go down in history as Australia's best ever Games, setting the bar high for the next Olympic and Paralympic cycle. The QAS is now on a mission to deliver more medals across more sports at the Los Angeles 2028 Games, in anticipation of hosting Australia's most successful Games in Queensland in 2032.
The QAS supports more than 500 elite athletes on their sporting journey from talented juniors to Olympians, Paralympians and World Champions. Our expert staff support athletes through in-house programs, partnerships with State and National Sporting Organisations, and individualised support for athletes on medal-winning trajectories to help them perform when it matters most.
Our ambitious high-performance strategy for the 2032 Games is to create more medal-winning moments for Queensland athletes that inspire their state and nation.
While this strategy defines our goals, our organisation's culture is what will help us achieve them. Therefore, the QAS is looking for highly talented and motivated individuals whose values and behaviours align with ours, to join our QAS Team.
In this role you will:
- Lead the attraction, recruitment, onboarding and development of health practitioners in partnership with QAS Technical Leads and Sports.
- Lead and manage procurement processes and actively manage contracts and agreements ensuring all parties obligations are met through the adaption and implementation of contemporary best practice contract and performance management of health practitioners.
- Manage and monitor the effectiveness of how practitioners are working in partnership with coaches, and cross functionally, to positively impact on athlete performance.
- Lead, develop and manage effective performance of team members, agree on performance standards, address underperformance and foster a positive culture which supports staff to maximise their health and wellbeing.
- In partnership with key stakeholders (QAS High Performance Managers, Technical Leads and Sports), oversee health processes with a comprehensive understanding of end-to-end care to ensure the QAS maximise athlete availability and performance.
- In partnership with QAS Technical Leads, integrate health systems and processes to enable the consistent delivery of athlete performance planning across the QAS business.
- Operational Management of the QAS Health clinic to ensure improved accessibility to medical support for athletes and identify opportunities to be proactive in health delivery.
- Support the QAS Chief Medical Officer in the development of guidelines and frameworks to ensure QAS comply with expected national and international health standards in high-performance sport.
- Respond to emergent policy issues with expert problem-solving skills to lead the development of novel solutions to complex clinical problems.
- Support the Executive Director of Performance Support and Senior Leadership team by critically reviewing the standard of Performance Health services, providing reports on impact of performance health on athlete performance and identification of opportunities to develop relationships with key stakeholders.
- Ensure QAS leads in health support for high-performance sport through a proactive model of care that optimises performance, minimises injury and illness risks, and maximises athlete training and competition performance.
The Queensland Academy of Sport is committed to the safety and wellbeing of our athletes. We are committed to an environment where athletes from any background are heard, treated fairly and free from abuse.
