About the role
As our Senior Policy Officer, you will:
• Monitor national and international developments of relevance to the climate risks such as drought and natural disasters, and other identified policy areas.
• Analyse contemporary policy initiatives to the Queensland Government's climate risk, drought, natural disaster and land management policies and programs, consistent with Queensland's strategic direction.
• Support drought and disaster policy and drought program reform.
• Support the development, coordination and presentation of analysis, options and recommendations on key policy and provide advice as required.
• Develop well rounded, evidence-based policy responses taking into account research and analysis from internal and external sources, the diverse interests of stakeholders and considerations of whole-of-government approach.
• Engage and consult with key stakeholders to identify emerging issues and develop solutions that support sound policy decisions and approaches.
• Prepare high quality written documentation such as briefing notes, submissions, discussion papers, correspondence and reports.
• Build, maintain and enhance effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective interface between anticipated organisational goals, policy development, planning and policy implementation review processes.
• Represent the unit or the department in a range of forums including inter-departmental and stakeholder meetings as required.
• Actively participate and contribute to related project activities that support the achievement of organisational goals and objectives.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to other policy officers within the business unit as required.
• Undertake other activities of the business unit as directed.
Essential requirements
• High level analytic, conceptual and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to effectively provide authoritative advice using effective oral and written communication skills.
You may also have
• A relevant tertiary qualification is highly desirable.
