Your contribution:
As the Director, you will lead the Environment Policy and Legislation team of professionals that play a key role in maintaining Queensland's biodiversity and the conservation of wildlife. You will be responsible for preparing advice to the Minister and leading challenging stakeholder negotiations on complex conservation policy and legislation issues.
You will be at the forefront of driving environmental policy and legislation outcomes for Queensland, with a particular focus on the stewardship of the Environmental Protection Act 1994.
The Environment Policy and Legislation unit is located within the Environmental Policy and Heritage Policy and Programs (EHPP) division, which provides a policy analysis and development function for the department to devise solutions to key emerging issues and to implement these solutions through legislative change or the use of non-regulatory and market-based approaches. EHPP leads DETSI's portfoliostrategy on environmental legislation and policy priorities in relation to conservation, water quality, waste, coastal, planning and development, heritage, air and chemicals, state of the environment reporting, environment protection and Great Barrier Reef protection policy. For these responsibilities EHPP supports the Minister and Director-General in representing Queensland's interests at the national level.
