We are looking for an experienced and dedicated Senior Policy Officer to play a pivotal role in the preservation and management of the Great Barrier Reef. In this influential role, you will:
- Provide expert secretariat support, ensuring the smooth operation of advisory committees focused on government and the Reef's stakeholders.
- Apply your robust operational and project management skills to support these critical governance groups.
- Thrive in an agile and fast-paced environment alongside a team that values strategic policy development.
- Collaborate closely with federal counterparts, including the Australian Government and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, to drive Queensland's contributions to significant policy and reporting initiatives.
- Coordinate Queensland's strategic input, including policy refinement, to review key conservation plans such as the Reef 2050 Plan and convey progress reports to UNESCO.
- Use your cultural capability to support partnerships with Traditional Owners, recognising and integrating their perspectives and knowledge into our conservation efforts.

About you:
- Strong analytical skills and capabilities in shaping policy and producing related materials for environmental initiatives.
- Excellent communication talents, capable of distilling complex concepts into clear, impactful messages for varied audiences through diverse mediums, including reports, briefs, and presentations.
- A methodical approach to research, coupled with the ability to problem-solve, consult effectively and draw evidence-based conclusions.
- A keen ability or willingness to quickly grasp a range of contemporary strategies pertinent to the multifaceted conservation of the Great Barrier Reef, considering international, national, and Queensland-specific contexts.
- Collaborative spirit to engage in multidisciplinary team efforts, efficiently manage projects, brief managers and senior officers, and execute secretariat duties with finesse.
