As the Principal Policy Officer, you will assist the department to achieve its vision through a performance driven and customer focused culture that delivers results, whilst displaying the core public sector values of customers first; ideas into action; unleash potential; be courageous; and empower people. This team leads strategic and coordinated delivery of Volunteering Policy, including addressing the findings of a Parliamentary Inquiry into supporting Volunteers in Queensland.

The Role:
The Principal Policy Officer supports the Manager and Director in delivering on a wide range of policy initiatives and engagement activities to support the volunteer sector. To determine policy positions and initiatives it is anticipated that a high level of stakeholder and sector engagement will be required and led by this role.

As Principal Policy Officer, you will assist the department to achieve its vision through a performance driven and customer focused culture that delivers results, whilst displaying the core public sector values of customers first; ideas into action; unleash potential; be courageous; and empower people.

Your initial focus will include:
• Provide timely, expert and authoritative advice on complex and emerging volunteering matters.
• Conduct and coordinate research, analysis relating to volunteering priorities, opportunities and issues.
• Deliver well considered, high quality policy papers, briefs, presentations, communication materials and reports and other policy and project management papers.
• Provide strategic advice to the Director and broader leadership team on key issues and opportunities relating to volunteering priorities and opportunities to improve outcomes and add value for the sector.
• Support the development and implementation of engagement activities with the volunteering sector and establish and maintain positive working relationships with volunteer sector stakeholders.
• Navigate agency boundaries to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships, networks and partnerships across Queensland Government agencies.

• Whilst there are no mandatory qualifications required for this role; previous experience in policy research and development will be considered an asset.
• Demonstrated experience working across government within complex collaborative environment would be highly regarded.
