As the AO6 Regional Support Officer [RSO] you will lead, supervise, mentor and provide training to a team of up to eight AO5 School Support Officers [SSO's] in your region. Your knowledge and experience of at-risk children, young people and
families will be invaluable in this role. You will also bring skills as a team leader, strategic thinker and your experience working in partnership with Police, Schools and key stakeholders such as community service providers to this position.

Your team of SSO's will directly work with Police and key internal and external stakeholders to engage Police referred children, young people and families to specialist support services.

The aim is to address the causal factors associated with educational disengagement, risk of harm and youth offending.

Additionally, the SSO's provide offending and harm reduction programs and presentations to primary schools.

Your key accountabilities

The core capability requirements for this role are:

• Using a high level of initiative to resolve issues, deliver practical solutions and disseminate information which supports business outcomes.
• Coordinate the effective operations of all School Support Officers within the area of supervision to ensure the delivery of services meets community needs.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships, networks, programs and other communication channels with internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide sound advice on strategic opportunities while developing and coordinating business improvement recommendations in line with policy, programs and function in relation to the engagement of vulnerable young people.
• Lead and coordinate a small team of School Support Officers by providing coaching, training and monitoring performance to support the achievement of agreed objectives and outcomes.
• Produce regular status and reports, briefing material and other correspondence for presentation to senior management.
• Represent the School Support Officer Program and the Queensland Police Service as requested at inter-departmental and inter-governmental meetings.

Role Requirements

Mandatory:

• Eligibility to obtain and hold Qld Working with Children (Blue card). The occupant of this position is required to hold a C class driver's licence or have the ability to acquire a driver's licence.

Qualification:

• Qualifications (tertiary/vocational) in a relevant field such as youth work/social work; and experience in an educational setting would be beneficial.

Technical/ Operational/ Educational experience:

• Nil

Other:

• Although based at Townsville, at times the successful applicant may be required to perform work at various locations across Queensland.

Regional School Support Officers may be required to conduct home visits to children at residential addresses with School Support Officers.

School Support Officer Program staff may be required to assist other Queensland Police Service units such as District Crime Prevention, Police Citizens Youth Club and Project Booyah.
