As a OO5 Ranger (NRM), you will support the Senior Ranger and Rangers in Charge in the Townsville and Airlie Beach region. The role focuses on planning, implementing, analysing and reporting on Natural Resource Management (NRM) related activities.

Travel, including overnight camping for a week or so, is a regular requirement in this role. Experience and confidence working in a remote (and sometimes isolated) areas is essential. You will need to be organised and self-sufficient, think strategically, show initiative and be able to work unsupervised.

Having the ability to communicate with and form trusted relationships with First Nations partners, a variety of stakeholders and your team is a must.

You will need the ability to:
• coordinate and/or prepare pest and fire strategies and proposals
• assist or lead on-ground delivery of pest and fire management activities
• respond to wildfire and other unplanned incidents, as part of a team
• undertake flora and fauna surveys
• complete research permit assessment applications
• undertake and/or assist with cultural surveys
• assess habitat condition and biomass levels
• undertake impact assessments for new developments
• develop project briefs for new works
• provide technical advice and on-the-job training for new and existing staff on NRM practices
• assist with other priority projects, where requested
• complete Health Checks as part of the Values Based Management Framework
• work productively with First Nations peoples, neighbours, local NRM groups, the Queensland Fire Department and local government bodies.
• undertake other tasks relevant to the duties of the role as assigned by your supervisor.

You will also need to have a contemporary knowledge of:
• best-practice conservation principles and practices
• strong writing and research skills
• GIS systems
• field collection techniques
• species identification skills
• relevant knowledge of policies and procedures.
• relevant policies and procedures
