About the Role 

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Executive Director for a 12-month opportunity to lead the management of Queensland's protected area estate, including the Great Barrier Reef, marine parks, and coastal and island operations. This role requires a visionary leader who can provide strategic direction and foster a high-performing, diverse, and inclusive team.

What You'll Do:
• Lead a high-performing, multidisciplinary, and geographically dispersed workforce while thriving in high pressure environments.
• Oversee the management of the Great Barrier Reef in partnership with the Commonwealth, and Queensland's marine parks, coast and islands through balancing conservation and approved uses.
• Lead multi-million dollar capital works programs, infrastructure projects, pest and fire programs, and other initiatives to support amazing visitor experiences.
• Foster a workplace culture that supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and promotes diversity and inclusion.

The Ideal Candidate 

Your eligibility: you must have Australian work rights and be able to demonstrate cultural capability through experience in engaging with First Nations communities.

Your suitability
• You will have proven experience in agile and value-based leadership, managing high-performance teams and developing policy initiatives. Strong conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills to make ethical decisions. Ability to communicate with influence and manage diverse stakeholders.
• Values-Based Leadership: Accountability, trust, and respect are essential. The candidate must ensure strong management fundamentals are in place to keep people safe, on time, and on target for deliverables.
• Cultural Understanding: Ability to understand and adapt to different cultural nuances across Queensland, from Cairns to the southern border.
• Diversity and Inclusion: We would love to learn about how your unique experiences, background, and perspectives would support our commitment to equity, diversity, respect and inclusion.

This is a 12-month fixed term opportunity as part of a mobility initiative with extensions being unlikely.
