The Infrastructure Safety Unit at Transport and Main Roads is seeking an Advisor (Work Health and Safety) to join the team on a permanent basis.
The Infrastructure Safety Unit (ISU) provides leadership and strategic direction to Infrastructure Management and Delivery (IMD) division and IMD projects on work health and safety (WHS) matters associated with infrastructure construction, delivery, maintenance and operation.

The purpose of the Advisor is to provide frontline WHS support and advice on the effective management of health and safety for our workers and workplaces to managers and operational staff across IMD. This role reports to the ISU but will work with health and safety professionals across Queensland to support the delivery of IMD's WHS management system.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
• Provide a high standard of professional advice and support on the:
- interpretation, understanding and application of WHS legislation, Australian and international standards, certification and accreditation criteria.
- implementation of WHS policies, procedures, standards, guidance and tools.
- identification of hazards and risks relevant to IMD work and workplaces.
- implementation of established contemporary good practice for eliminating and minimising risks relevant to IMD work and workplaces.
• Lead and support effective incident reporting and investigation in accordance with established TMR and IMD procedures and methodologies.
• Lead and support workplace inspections and audits to ensure the identification of hazards and to validate the effectiveness of risk controls.
• Lead and support in-house WHS training on WHS and risk management within IMD.
• Support the identification, planning and delivery of operational initiatives targeting improvements in organisational capability in incident and injury prevention, incident investigations, front-line safety leadership and effective management of high-risk activities.
• Work collaboratively with diverse teams across IMD to support local health and safety representatives through the provision of training, role coaching and the facilitation of local health and safety representative networks.
Mandatory qualifications and conditions
• Applicants must possess a current, valid Queensland "C" class driver's license or equivalent as travel to project sites will be required.
• Certificate IV Work Health and Safety.
Desirable qualifications
• Diploma in work health and safety.
• Proven experience in operational health and safety practices in the civil construction industry, including frontline engagement and surveillance, monitoring of compliance and performance, and the development of frontline organisational capability.
• Proven experience delivering training and coaching services in the field of health and safety.
• Proven experience in incident investigation.
