The Queensland Government is searching for a dedicated OO5 Ranger to join the Cairns South management team, an agile unit collaborating closely with local Indigenous ranger groups. This supervisory role offers the opportunity to oversee a field-based team, working directly under the Ranger in Charge and playing a crucial part in managing the breathtaking protected areas within the region. Responsibilities include guiding the daily operations of park management across five vital sectors: Pest Management, Fire Management, Estate Management, Visitor Management, and Assets and Safety. You will ensure the seamless maintenance of infrastructure, ranging from visitor amenities and tracks to firebreaks, and the upkeep of equipment and machinery.
At the core, you will safeguard the vision of Queensland's national parks as protected, accessible, and valuable natural heritages. Cooperation with community members and stakeholders is key, as operations are carried out within the framework of several legislative guidelines including the Nature Conservation Act, Recreation Areas Management Act, and others.
Our business's direct focus is on terrestrial protected areas where you will engage in natural and cultural resource conservation. You will ensure equitable access to safe sustainable recreational opportunities, manage multiple-use areas, and foster nature-based business development through effective communication and education.
As an OO5 Ranger, you must be physically fit and comfortable working in remote areas with challenging terrains and sometimes absent mobile reception. This role is field-oriented, assisting a small work unit in the Cairns South region and coordinating closely with First Nation traditional owner groups.

Applications will remain current for 12 months.
