As a Senior Policy and Legislation Officer, you will contribute to a range of deliverable products e.g. discussion papers, cabinet submissions, legislation, communication materials and training. Stakeholder consultation is a key function of policy and legislation work. You will also manage the day-to-day planning, operation and problem solving for policy and legislative projects to ensure that timeframes and objectives are met.
This position is in the Environmental Policy and Legislation unit. The unit's responsibilities include stewardship of the Environmental Protection Act 1994 and its subordinate legislation, contributing to the national air and chemicals agenda via national working groups and steering committees, working with other agencies on policies and strategies which influence or affect Queensland's environmental policy and legislation, and developing legislative reform projects.
We're looking for the best suited applicant for the role. We'll do this by assessing your eligibility and your suitability to undertake the requirements of the role (including, where relevant, the way you carried out previous roles). We'll also consider your potential to make contributions to the department and how your engagement would support our commitment to equity, diversity, respect and inclusion.
This position requires:
- Demonstrated technical skills in legislative interpretation and implementation, legislation drafting, and managing projects through Cabinet and Parliamentary processes.
- Demonstrated well-developed ability in researching and critically analysing policy issues to identify solutions that are based on evidence and that are fit for purpose.
- Demonstrated well-developed experience in applying key concepts and principles of legislation when developing policy responses.
- Demonstrated well-developed experience in managing and coordinating projects to completion, establish priorities, meet deadlines, including stakeholder engagement and negotiations as well as obtaining executive and government approval.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate efficiently and effectively to deliver quality written communication products, including the preparation of sensitive materials, professional advice while coordinating internal and external stakeholder meetings.
- Contribution to workplace equity and diversity that enriches our culture of innovation, respect and inclusion.
