As part of the Safety, Health and Wellbeing team, the Principal Advisor Rehabilitation and Wellbeing is responsible for the effective delivery of a professional workplace rehabilitation and organisational wellbeing across the department.

Using your knowledge and expertise, you will be responsible for partnering, promoting, and delivering best practice rehabilitation and wellbeing support to the department as well as developing and implementing safe, and supportive return to work and wellbeing strategies for employees. Your knowledge of WorkCover claims management is exemplar as are your strategies, programs and initiatives that are focused on reducing claim numbers and enhancing workers experience in return-to-work and wellbeing programs. To support your objectives, this role will have one direct report (Senior Rehabilitation and Wellbeing Advisor)

Key responsibilities

The Principal Advisor Rehabilitation and Wellbeing key responsibilities are:

• Provide expert knowledge and strategic advice and guidance on rehabilitation, psychosocial and wellbeing matters to inform relevant stakeholders and support policy direction
• Develop positive business leader relationships and provide strategic and technical high-level advice to the Manager Health Safety & Wellbeing, senior leaders and broader management teams on rehabilitation, psychosocial and wellbeing matters.
• Manage and deliver rehabilitation and return to work services across the department to injured employees and to undertake reviews and monitor rehabilitation and return to work services effectiveness to ensure a collaborative early return to work in a coordinated approach with employees and business units.
• Initiate, design, implement and review the delivery of psychosocial and wellbeing promotion and strategies across the department in collaboration with the existing safety and wellbeing services including fitness passport and employee assistance programs.
• Provide strategic advice to management on injury management for complex, high-risk claims and is recognised as a reference point for workplace injury
management within the department.
• Develop, implement and monitor injury management and psychosocial processes and strategies for improved employee experiences through educating, supporting and influencing all stakeholders through a variety of activities including training awareness sessions, case conferencing and comprehensive rehabilitation and return to work plans.
• Liaise and negotiate with WorkCover Queensland, the Workers' Compensation Regulator and Superannuation bodies to ensure effective management of claims.
• Manage, coordination of external return to work providers, medical examinations and or other early intervention and injury management support services as required.
• Manage the department's voluntary retirement scheme as set out in the Voluntary Medical Retirement (VMR) Scheme (Directive 06/24) and the independent medical assessment process under the Independent medical examinations (Directive 04/24).
• Coach and mentor the Senior Rehabilitation and Wellbeing advisor in delivering best practice and client focused rehabilitation services.
• Monitor and interpret relevant workers compensation, psychosocial and wellbeing legislative developments and practices and ensure integration into the departments relevant policies, procedures and processes.
• Monitor trends in injuries, illnesses and occurrences across the department and prepare detailed reports for managers and stakeholders with recommendations for managing identified rehabilitation, psychosocial and wellbeing issues.
• Develop high level detailed reports and briefing papers to provide management with a comprehensive position on the effectiveness of the department's
rehabilitation, psychosocial and wellbeing processes.
• Liaise with internal and external clients, other government agencies and employer networks to identify emerging trends and contemporary rehabilitation, psychosocial and wellbeing strategies.
