The Infection Management Service Unit operates Monday-Friday, with the AO3 position working from 8:00 until 16:06pm (Flexibility for the successful applicant can be negotiated upon commencement ensuring that service requirements are met) The Administration Officer role will work 3 days of the fortnightly week and the following week will work 4 days

Children's Health Queensland provides services from key locations in the Brisbane metropolitan area and works with the 15 other hospital and health services as well as NGOs and charity partners in Queensland to deliver an integrated network of healthcare services and support across the state.

Your Opportunity:

The position of Genetic Counsellor (HP3) within the Genetic Counselling Consultation Liaison Service will:  

  • Deliver base level genetic counselling services to paediatric patients and their families, navigating the intricacies of genetic disorders with the support of an experienced, dynamic and progressive team. This role may include family history documentation, assessment of genetic risk, delivery/explanation of information and client-centred counselling under the supervision of a genetic counselling team that consists of HP4 and HP5 level practitioners.
  • Contribute to the genetic literacy of CHQ HHS staff, patients, and their families through engaging education initiatives, with guidance from senior genetic counsellors.
  • Carry out genetic counselling within all clinical areas of paediatrics (general medicine, surgical and critical care).
  • Work alongside multidisciplinary teams to provide seamless, integrative genetic counselling, ensuring that patient care is both personalized and coordinated.
  • Grow professionally in a collaborative environment focused on sharing knowledge and specialized care and be at the forefront of incorporating genomic healthcare into paediatric services.
  • Liaise with children, young people and their families, other health professionals, supervisors, students and researchers, as required.
