As our Senior Investigator in the National Fire Ant Eradication Program (NFAEP), you will:
• Co-ordinate, plan, undertake and report on major and complex investigations of non-compliance with legislation administered by Biosecurity Queensland.
• Provide expertise, mentoring, training, and feedback to operational staff on undertaking investigations, enforcement action and applying legislation.
• Assist in the development and implementation of appropriate compliance monitoring programs to ensure legislative outcomes are achieved.
• Provide authoritative advice on investigations, enforcement activity, risk assessments and best practice in regulatory compliance.
• Develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships, networks and partnerships with key stakeholders at local, state and national levels.
• Undertake quality checks and provide feedback on complex investigation reports and/or prosecution briefs of evidence prepared by authorised inspectors.
• Represent Biosecurity Queensland in court proceedings including briefing government legal officers and external Counsel.
• Model professional and ethical behaviour to achieve and encourage best practice in investigations and regulatory compliance activity, for example, when undertaking tasks as a designated officer appointed to exercise statutory powers under Biosecurity legislation.
• Provide other staff (e.g. policy staff, leaders) with advice and assistance in the development, implementation and review of compliance policies, procedures and systems and contribute input into legislative reviews and proposals for legislative change.
• Foster an environment that values individual and team performance, is outcomes-focused and is committed to continuous improvement through effective communication and training.
• Adhere to the Department's Code of Conduct, including the principles and practices of employment equity, ethical conduct and workplace health and safety.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships, networks and partnerships with stakeholders, including government, community and industry leaders to facilitate the eradication of Red Imported Fire Ant (RIFA).
• Foster a culture that values individual and team performance and strives for continuous improvement and efficiencies in meeting the objectives of the NFAEP.
Mandatory requirements:
• A current unrestricted “C” Class Driver's Licence.
• Minimum Certificate IV in Government (Investigations) or equivalent investigative experience in a law enforcement or government investigation environment.
• Be prepared to travel intrastate and work outside normal business hours to undertake duties associated with the role.
