Do you have skills and experience in invasive species management? The Pest Services team sits within the Technical Services branch of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service & Partnerships (QPWS&P) and provides strategic services and advice regarding the agency’s internal and external legislative and custodial responsibilities as they relate to the management of invasive species. This position will assist in the development and upkeep of a suite of policy and administrative instruments to ensure consistency with legal and custodial obligations. The position is required to liaise within QPWS&P, with other government agencies and relevant external organisations and authorities. The Senior Policy Officer (Pests is responsible for supervising staff, assisting in the delivery of the annual QPWS&P invasive species management program, and providing high level technical and professional advice

As the Senior Policy Officer, you will:
• Manage and lead projects and budget with a strategic focus on invasive species management on QPWS&P estate, to ensure successful planning and timely delivery of the department's strategic objectives.
• Interpret and analyse legislation to inform the development and continued review of the QPWS&P invasive species management policies, technical documents, procedures and guidelines and provide high quality and timely written and/or verbal advice regarding any implications for QPWS&P business.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with officers in other government departments to achieve efficient whole of government policy development.
• Undertake research and prepare and review Ministerial and other correspondence, reports, briefings and Cabinet Submissions, on complex issues relating to QPWS&P legal and custodial invasive species management responsibilities.
• Represent the QPWS&P Pest Services Team in a professional manner and provide expert technical advice in dealings with internal and external stakeholders (including Departmental and whole of government negotiations, and to operational staff and executive teams to support decision-making).
• Participate as a proactive team member in contributing to Unit and Branch outcomes and supervise and mentor staff as required to build capability and resilience within the Unit.
• Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations peoples of Australia.
