The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions is seeking an expression of interest for a temporary flexible full-time SO2 Principal Lawyer from date of commencement to 30 June 2026. This unique and significant role has arisen from the Women’s Safety and Justice Taskforce and is part of the Queensland Government’s commitment to end domestic and family violence through the introduction of legislation to make coercive control a domestic violence offence. This role will prepare and implement work required to ensure that police prosecutors and Crown Prosecutors are equipped with the knowledge and ability to effectively administer the new laws and contribute to key projects to be delivered by ODPP.

About the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions:
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) represents the State of Queensland in criminal cases. The ODPP's significant responsibility is to prosecute criminal matters in the High Court of Australia, Court of Appeal (Qld), Supreme Court, Mental Health Court, District Court, the Childrens Court of Queensland, and the Magistrates Court (in limited locations and matters).
This is a temporary full-time position from date of commencement to 30 June 2026.
As the Principal Lawyer, the incumbent will:
• Lead the development and delivery of a range of project based initiatives and deliverables, that operationalize and meet the intended outcome of recommendations arising from the taskforce and inquiry.
• Co-develop learning resources and modules, with the Capability Development Officer, to communicate and train legal staff on legislative amendments and practice change.
• Develop and maintain productive working relationships and partnerships with relevant internal and external stakeholders, with the view to negotiating mutually agreeable and appropriate outcomes that delivery on government commitments.
• Represent the ODPP on working groups and other forums and participate in relevant communities of practice.
• Work as part of a small, discrete project group to deliver, time sensitive outputs, in a sensitive, complex and contentious legal environment.
