The OO6 Ranger (Regional Fire Team) works within a geographically dispersed team of five in supporting fire operations across the stunning natural and cultural landscapes of the Coastal and Islands Region.

The position will support in the delivery of the Regional Fire Program, as well as other areas of Fire Management such as response, coordination and planning and to support the roll out of enhanced fire capabilities, systems and data, mapping, training, equipment and assisting aviation operations coordination. The role will be responsible for assisting the delivery of projects relating to prescribed burning, bushfire response and disaster preparedness and may assist with the acquisition and maintenance of fire equipment, updating response plans and contributing to planning work including the review of fire strategies and burn proposals.

Providing systems and technical support to regional operational staff is essential for this role, and a highly organised approach to supporting operational teams is key. A willingness to travel, show leadership and work side by side with regional staff during prescribed burns and bushfire response is essential. Sound operational fire experience is well regarded, however a strong capability to work with systems, data and administrative support a necessity. The role will ensure relevant departmental fire and operational policies are implemented and legislative requirements are met. Working closely with operational staff in many locations across the region, including First Nations Partners and interagency fire contacts.

A strong capability to work with systems, data and administrative support is a necessity, while sound operational fire experience is well regarded and will be further developed while in the role, including opportunities to grow your skills in advanced fire fighter and incident management functional roles. The role will ensure relevant departmental fire and operational policies are implemented and legislative requirements are met. The position requires the ability to work as part of a team on individual and team-based projects, in the office and field environments, and will report to the Senior Ranger within the Regional Fire Team.
