The Restorative Practice Support Officer supports young people and staff to build, maintain and repair safe and respectful relationships, a Restorative Practice Support Officer focuses on four main areas:
- Facilitate conflict resolution interventions to reduce risk to staff and young people and support the development of socially appropriate skills to deal with peer dynamics and conflict.
- Facilitate restorative interventions with young people who have engaged in incidents involving violence, disruptive behaviour, verbal aggression, and staff assaults.
- Deliver high quality Restorative Practice training to Youth Detention Centre staff, supported by ongoing workplace-based mentoring.
- Provide expert advice to the CYDC leadership group to guide ongoing implementation of the Centre-wide application of Restorative Practices.

As the Restorative Practice Support Officer, you will specifically:
- Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Strive to embed Restorative Practices into the Detention Centre, to support the building, maintaining, and restoring of safe and respectful relationships.
- In collaboration with operational staff, support conflict resolution between young people as well as young people and staff. You will take both a leadership and coordination role to resolve complex cases of conflict.
- Facilitate restorative interventions to repair relationships between staff and young people when harm has occurred.
- Design and deliver Restorative Practice activities and programs aimed to build and maintain working relationships between young people and staff.
- Provide targeted mentoring to young people who are involved in complex and/or multiple conflicts, working towards the development of emotional regulation and conflict resolution skills.
- Facilitate Restorative Practice training for new and existing Youth Detention Centre staff. Coordinate follow-up coaching and assessment of competency of staff in the workplace.
- Develop training resources in collaboration with Client Services to ensure Restorative Practice training is evidence based and consistent with trauma informed practice principles.
- Support young people's reintegration and transition to community by supporting relationships with external stakeholders.
- Uphold the safety and security requirements as it applies within a regulated environment.
