Coronial Support Officer

The Coronial Support Officer is part of the Operations Team and provides administrative and case management support to the Coronial Services Officer and the Coronial Investigations Officer within the CCQ registry, to ensure family focused, coronial services to the bereaved in a timely and accurate manner.
The position is responsible for communicating with, and delivering services to coroners, families, witnesses, court users and stakeholders.
This role requires you to operate within a dynamic, demanding and often sensitive operational environment, while maintaining a high quality of output and engagement with internal and external stakeholders.

Your key responsibilities
In your role as Coronial Support Officer, you will:
• Have knowledge of, or ability to acquire knowledge of the relevant policies and processes governed by the Coroners Act 2003.
• Provide administrative support to ensure the efficient and effective operation of Coroners Court Queensland,
• Adhere to established administrative processes related to court and registry operations, including receiving reports of death, and creating a case file, to uphold the delivery of high-quality services to clients and stakeholders.
• Keep stakeholders of the courts at the heart of service delivery and respond to their needs in a trauma-informed and compassionate manner whilst demonstrating tact, discretion, and confidentiality, when communicating about difficult and highly emotive issues.
• Cultivate and nurture professional and collaborative relationships based on respectful and confidential engagement with key stakeholders including judiciary members and their staff, government agencies, families of the deceased, and the public.
• Skilfully prepare, process, and manage a range of administrative documents, such as correspondence and court records (autopsy orders and coronial findings), in strict accordance with relevant legislation, departmental policies, and procedures to ensure timeliness and accuracy.
• Provide keyboard support for drafting documents with technical and medical language, including coronial findings.
• Use, update and monitor relevant databases, digital tools, and files in line with departmental guidelines to ensure the integrity and accuracy of data.
• Provide appropriate information to families, members of the public and other internal and external stakeholders about court and registry services, court rules, practices, and procedures.
• Foster a growth mindset by taking ownership of developing skills, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of current practices and procedures, seeking feedback, and staying motivated when managing challenging tasks.
• Collaborate with the team to identify, communicate, review, and progress service improvements to registry processes and procedures.
• Ensure timely coding of information about Queensland coronial investigations into the National Coronial Information System (NCIS) and ensure that coding practices are accurate and efficient, and meet coding quotas and KPIs.
• Carry out any other reasonable duties as directed by supervisory and management staff, adhering to professional standards and organisational objectives.
The work of the Coroners Court of Queensland will expose employees to disturbing material including offending behaviours, criminal activity and other explicit, distressing, or offensive content. Employees will be required to engage with persons who have and may continue to experience distressing circumstances and/or are involved with the coronial system. Applicants should consider the above and their personal resilience and coping strategies to sustain working in confronting and challenging circumstances.
