The Data Modelling Unit is a team within the Research and Analytics Directorate and provides modelling and forecasting capability across all areas of the QPS business. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of law enforcement through technology and to contribute significantly to public safety and operational efficiency. This role will make an important contribution to the development of data models and outputs.

As a Senior Data Modeller, you will analyse policing data to prepare models and forecasts as well as reports to support evidence-based decision making and analysis in the organisation

Your key accountabilities

The core capability requirements for this role are:

  • Collaborate with Research & Analytics team and stakeholders internal and external to the QPS to develop and maintain processes, systems, methods and tools for business analysis, modelling processes and reporting
  • Develop and optimise data integration processes including extracting, transforming, and loading data from a variety of data sources into data warehouses and other repositories
  • Contribute to and review the usage of standards, practices, and processes to ensure that data models, reports, and correspondence supports business understanding and decision making.
  • Develop and maintain tools, modelling products and modelling techniques including but not limited to a variety of economic model constructs.
  • Provide timely and accurate estimates for new business activities and actively participate in the identification and management of risks and issues.

Qualification

Whilst there are no mandatory qualifications, a qualification in economics, data science, analytics or related fields would be highly regarded.

Technical/ Operational/ Educational experience

Highly Desirable.

  • Proven experienced in the use of statistical forecasting (e.g. linear regression) and forecasting models (e.g. time series)
  • Proven advanced skills using visualisation software (e.g. Power BI, excel macro), data storytelling, data extraction and querying (SQL Server), programming such as Python/C# and the use of cloud computing platforms
